Is there a fire called the soul
That will keep burning when my body's cold?
I looked for answers in a book
But lacked the patience that it took
I woke up as my dream took flight
In a city of noise in the middle of night
At the sea of lights I peered
And felt the hungry cold I fear
Humanity I see is like a child
Struggling to grow
A million years and still it's clear
It has so far to go
Good God
From my 19th story perch
I scan the shadowed streets and search
For all the friends we left behind
As we tried to build mankind
I look for knowledge on the news
But all the anchors sing the blues
I try to formulate my view
And end up even more confused
Humanity I see is like a child
Struggling to grow
A million years and still it's clear
It has so far to go
Good God
We write our stories with battle scars
We stake our future upon the stars
But I think we'll find our way another day
Yes I think we'll find our way another day
Humanity I see is like a child
Struggling to grow
A million years and still it's clear
It has so far to go
Good God
I woke up as my dream took flight
All night ...
