Paradise

Sandpapered Dreams

I sit here in a paradise with little on my mind
The sun-tanned beauties strolling by are truly to be pined
The warm wind brushes past me and then dances down the shore
The rhythm of the waves brings me a peace I can't ignore.
But I reflect when thinking back how empty life can be

Destined to fall into rat race reality
We struggle all our lives for this brief chance to get away
To quench a gnawing thirst that grips our souls each night and day.

And I thought I'd find the answers on an island in the sun
And I tried, yes I tried
We're all lost souls who gather here to escape what we're from
And we come, and we come to Paradise.

I sat out on the beach with my guitar across my lap
And searched for inspiration for which my aching pen could tap
But all I saw were swaying trees and couples hand in hand
So I tucked my envy behind my shades and leaned back in the sand.

As she came by she stopped and turned and I returned her gaze
And something in her eyes made me regret my younger days
I tried to find the words to make her want to stay with me
I?m still not the sophisticate that I wish I could be.

And I thought I'd find the answers on an island in the sun
Oh I tried, yes I tried
We're all lost souls who gather here to escape what we're from
And we come, and we come to Paradise.
